Our counsellor is a registered CPCAB Therapist governed by the BACP, working to their code of ethics ensuring you the client and the sessions are safe.
Our enfield counselling service is based upon an integrative counselling approach. This in itself can seem confusing as each integrative counsellor will combine different models and approaches. My integrative counselling approach is primarily being non-directive, and based upon the person centered approach. We believe counselling enables individuals to reflect upon themselves and how they act in the outside world. In a safe confidential environment clients can choose which issue they wish to work on and to take the lead in exploring their problem. Through this approach they are able to examine different points of views leading them to finding their own solutions. Throughout a counselling relationship the client has freedom to be ‘themselves’ and maintain their true inner self. Our counsellors role is to empower the client to trust in their own wisdom rather than seek advice or answers from the counsellor.
- The non-directive approach draws upon the work of Carl Rogers, who identified three ‘core conditions’ (congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy), support and encourage personal growth of the client in the therapy (Rogers, 1961). We believe that honesty, non-judgment and acceptance and empathy of the counsellor will help empower the client to feel safe and accepted, so that they can trust in their own wisdom to bring about change in their life.
Counsellors can help
Counselling can help with a whole range of problems such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, illness, trauma, self-harm, relationship problems and abuse. The list is too long to write but any problem which is stopping you functioning properly in your life can be addressed. Counselling can help people cope with:
- a difficult life event, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress
- a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder
- an upsetting physical health condition, such as infertility
- difficult emotions, for example, low self-esteem or anger
The first counselling session
This will be an opportunity for the client an counsellor to explore the possibility of working together. You will be able to ask any questions you may have, and you’ll talk about your hopes and expectations of the therapy process. Our counsellor will also reserve some time to discuss practicalities such as fees and session times. If, after the initial session, you feel that therapy or counselling isn’t for you, or that our counsellor is not the right therapist for you, We can assist you with referral options or to find alternative sources of help or support in Enfield.
The sessions last 50 minutes and require commitment from both the therapist and the client.
