Sports Massage

Sports massage is a type of deep tissue massage that stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation. It uses a variety of treatment techniques including; deep soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching, muscle energy technique, soft tissue release and neuromuscular techniques.

Sports massage was developed to prepare athletes for optimal performance in sport and to speed up recovery. During the training season sports massage helps to prevent injury and stimulates and facilitates healing of injured muscles and tendons.

There are various types of sessions available, our Enfield Sports Massage therapists specialises in:

  • Restorative sports massage: performed during the training season to allow the athlete to maintain their training regime, with less chance of injury.
  • Rehabilitative sports massage: performed on injured athletes, it alleviates pain and reduces further aggravation of the injury.
  • Pre-event: Performed hours or days before a sporting event, it stimulates muscle activity and prepares the body.

Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage is a deep soft tissue treatment that is slow and stimulates blood flow to tight and tense muscles.  Deep soft tissue work is not only good for those with muscle tension and stress, but can be used by anyone as part of a healthy detoxifying lifestyle.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is beneficial for almost all women; it differs from regular massage in several ways. The first major difference is the fact that the patient receiving the treatment is pregnant; therefore appropriate knowledge of pregnancy and the anatomy of a pregnancy are vitally important.

Secondly a short medical history will be needed to assess mother and baby to ensure that treatment is suitable for you.

Lastly the positioning during the massage is important for the well-being of both mother and baby.  Typically the therapy will be performed while the mother is seated or lying on her side.

What should I have, osteopathy or massage?

Osteopathy can be thought of as medicine, when something is wrong you take medicine, but sometimes you take a little medicine to prevent an illness from materialising  If you are in a lot of pain, or have been in pain for a long time; book in for an osteopathic appointment. Deep tissue massage can be thought of as exercise, you exercise on a regular basis to keep your body healthy. If you regularly put your body through stress (physical, emotional, pregnancy) then your muscles will need a helping hand.  A regular deep tissue, sports or pregnancy massage at our Enfield Sports Massage practice will be a great help.
